Action Alert - Preserve Sundays

North Dakota's Sunday preservation law is about more than respecting Sunday. It is about our values and way of life. It is about putting people before profit.

The Sunday preservation law is part of what makes North Dakota great. North Dakota ranks among the top states in quality of life, happiness, children well-being, and economic growth. We don't need to "be like other states." We should want to continue to be better than other states.

Contact your state senator and urge him or her to vote NO on HB 1097.

Who: State Senate

Where: Senate Message Center or contact them directly by phone or email.

Sample Message: Please vote NO on HB 1097. Some things are more important than shopping on Sunday. Please keep this part of the North Dakota way of life.

When: Now. The Senate could vote on HB 1097 next week.

Action Alert - Oppose HB 1443

HB 1443 would greatly expand gambling in North Dakota by allowing "historic horse racing" machines throughout the state. These electronic video machines are purposely designed to look, sound, and play like slot machines. (The picture here is of an actual "historic horse racing" machine.)

Gambling in and of itself is not immoral, but its proliferation can erode the common good. Moreover, because of its regressive and addictive nature, gambling poses the greatest threat to those least able to afford it.

Contact your state senator and urge him or her to vote NO on HB 1443.

Who: State Senate

Where: Senate Message Center or contact them directly by phone or email.

Sample Message: Please vote NO on HB 1443.

When: This week. The bill could go to the floor after March 21.

Action Alert - No on HB 1254 - Sports Gambling

North Dakota does not need more gambling. HB 1254 would legalize gambling on professional and collegiate sports and athletics. This goes beyond games of chance and would sanction gambling on people without their consent.

In addition to expanding gambling problems in the state, HB 1254 undermines the dignity of the human person.

Contact your Senator and ask him or her to oppose HB 1254.

Who: State Senate

Where: Senate Message Center or contact them directly by phone or email.

Sample Message: Please vote No on HB 1254.

When: The Senate could vote on HB 1254 late next week.

UPDATE:

HB 1515 passed the Senate 35-10 and was referred to the Appropriations Committee. Thank you for the calls and emails. The bill will come back to the floor at a later date. Stay tuned.

Action Alert - Yes on HB 1515

Health care reforms have left a segment of our neighbors behind — low-income and mothers and their unborn children. North Dakota ranks at the bottom among the states when it comes to providing basic health care to low-income pregnant women. HB 1515 is a modest and fiscally responsible proposal to cover more low-income pregnant women during their pregnancies. (Check out the bipartisan House floor discussion on how this bill is pro-life and pro-woman.)

This important bill passed by a large margin in the House but urgently needs your help in the state senate.

On behalf of women and their unborn children, please contact your state senator and ask him or her to vote YES on HB 1515.

Who: State Senate

Where: Senate Message Center or contact them directly by phone or email.

Sample Message: Please vote YES on HB 1515. Let's not leave these pregnant women and their unborn children behind.

When: Now. The Senate could vote on HB 1515 on Monday, March 11.
